  • Issues And Pain Points

A wood products manufacturer needed an application solution for a new product line requiring two-component coating.

The existing process relied on manually mixing small batches and applying material with a cup gun, creating inconsistent mix ratios, improper curing, and slower production.

Color changes required significant labor time and often resulted in wasted material when mixed paint was not fully used before switching colors.

Pot-life limitations also created additional waste, rework, and production delays when material expired before it could be applied

  • Grapek Bates Solution

Grapek Bates Engineering and Paint Application specialists designed a Sames 2K EVO system to support fast, accurate two-component spraying.

The system was configured with dedicated circuits for three separate colors, one catalyst, and a common solvent, allowing resin and catalyst to be mixed automatically on demand.

This on-demand mixing approach helped ensure accurate, ready-to-apply material while reducing the need to pre-mix larger quantities.

Grapek Bates also fabricated custom racks in-house, with all system components pre-mounted and tested at the assembly center before shipment to support a seamless installation.

  • Grapek Bates Implementation Results

The Sames 2K EVO system significantly increased throughput by reducing time spent pre-mixing product and correcting issues caused by inaccurate manual mixing.

On-demand mixing helped eliminate pot-life issues by allowing material to be mixed only when needed, reducing waste and improving process reliability.

End-of-day cleanup was simplified through the EVO control panel's flush cycle, helping operators complete shutdown procedures more efficiently.

The system was also configured to support two separate spray guns, giving the client room to expand operator capacity and further increase throughput in the future.
